PRO: Founders of the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP), and its 52 mainly charter schools across the U.S. The two idealistic educators have found a way to hold low-income kids to the highest expectations, teach them to shine, and send a whopping 80% of them to college. Teachers around the country are learning from their methods.
CON: Despite the accolades, KIPP's uptake nationwide has been slow. And some skeptics contend that KIPP's look good because the charter schools only pick the cream of the public school crop.
